Gretchen Sussman leads the Food & Hospitality Practice at Root Inc. and uses her extensive business experience in strategy creation and deployment, organizational optimization, and cultural transformation to help sustain performance improvement for companies and the people who lead them. Gretchen is recognized for her ability to challenge the status quo, inspire a common vision, and empower others to unlock performance.

 As the head of Root’s Food & Hospitality practice, Gretchen advises executive leaders of Fortune 500 companies to help them execute positive and real change through their people. She does this using Root’s Change Process and innovative and disruptive solutions, which are backed by proven research and over 30 years of improving business performance for partnered organizations.

Before joining Root, Gretchen held management positions at many organizations, including Sara Lee Corporation, CSM Bakery Solutions, The Martin-Brower Company, Instill Corporation, Primo Water, and the Women’s Foodservice Forum.

Gretchen has served on both for-profit and non-profit boards, including Snappy Salads, the Women’s Foodservice Forum (WFF), and the International Foodservice Manufacturing Association (IFMA). She is a requested panelist and speaker.

Ms. Sussman attended the University of Wisconsin—River Falls and earned an Executive Leadership Certification from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.

Gretchen and Mark, her husband of 32 years, live in Indianapolis and enjoy spending time with their extended family, including their two grandchildren, Amelia (9) and Miles (7). 

  Cindy Thomson is the President of Sysco Sacramento. She relocated from Spokane, Washington in December 2018 to accept her current position. Her career with Sysco started in 1992 where she started as a Customer Service Representative at Sysco Seattle and has held various sales and management positions within the company; most recently as the President of Sysco Spokane and prior to that as the Vice President of Sales at Sysco South Florida in Miami. 

Prior to working for Sysco, she was an educator and coach in Seattle, WA. Her passion for developing others led to her decision to enter the corporate world and pursue Senior Leadership positions. 

Cindy is passionate about building and developing strong teams. People are Sysco’s greatest asset and the ability to continue to develop strong leaders is her #1 focus. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Education earned in 1990, she continues to teach, coach, and lead her teams to success in her current role.
